FIVE cricketers on
bicycles arrived at the Westward Ho! headquarters of
Bideford CC on Friday in search of rest and refreshment.
They were from Plymouth Cricket Club and were on a
sponsored ride, visiting every Devon League ground in
the county.
Their club is being threatened with eviction from their
Peverell Park home for the past 80 years.
The cycle ride was organised to raise money towards the
estimated £20,000 it will cost to fight their cause
through the courts.
The riders, Dave Burke, Victor Kandampally, Keith
Barlow, Andy Ware and Ben Ferrao had already visited the
Sandford, Barnstaple and Braunton grounds before
arriving at Westward Ho! where Bideford CC had laid on a
hot meal, refreshments and accommodation.
"We were very grateful for the hospitality," Dave Burke
said.
"We are determined to fight the eviction notice because
we believe we have a right to occupy the ground where we
have been for the past 80 years and our pavilion which
we built and paid for."
Bideford Cricket Club chairman Brian Champion said: "We
were happy to help."
On Saturday, the cyclists made their way back to
Plymouth via Hatherleigh.

GOOD
LUCK FOR THE NEW SEASON!
Andy
Davies has just registered his fiftieth year
with Bideford CC. Andy began his career as a budding
youngster hoping to get a game, with limited colts
cricket
back in the late 50’s he used to turn up on a Saturdayafternoon’s wishing there had been a late call off.
As Andy gained experience it was quite obvious that he
was going to be one of the greatest players Bideford
would ever produce, not only an opening bat but arguably
the best wicket keeper to don the gloves for our club.
Not only a fine player but what a club man, he is
currently Treasurer, Grounds man and Colts co-ordinator,
add to this all the various committee’s that he sits on
including the Devon Cricket Board leaves you with
nothing but total admiration for him.
Thank You Andy
and Best Wishes from everyone at Bideford CC
The first
recipient of the Annual
Tony Miller
Award went to our Club Chairman Brian Champion.
He was presented the award by Brian Pearce on
behalf of DCUS
