Walking Cricket

We are excited to announce the launch of Walking Cricket at our beautiful ground in Westward Ho! - a relaxed way back into the sport or a sociable introduction to it, for men and women aged 50+!
Walking cricket sessions will begin at 10.00am -12.00 on Sunday May 4th at Bideford, Littleham & Westward Ho! Cricket Club. It is exactly what it says, running is not required - players walk to score runs, move around and everybody gets the opportunity to bat, bowl and field in cricket positions.
BCC will join a handful of clubs across Devon to offer this low-impact version of traditional cricket designed to accommodate players of all ages and abilities, especially older adults or those with reduced mobility.
We are offering FREE MEMBERSHIP for 2025. A donation for tea & cake afterwards would be greatly appreciated. Whether it's getting back into the game you love or having your first chance to play cricket, it's going to be fun. Come along and give it a try.
Alex Jopling, Head of Community at Devon Cricket Foundation, said: “We are excited that Devon clubs will be establishing Walking Cricket in 2025, engaging new audiences and members of the community. Walking sports provide clear social, physical and mental benefits for people particularly for those in later life and we are pleased to have the support of Age UK Devon with this initiative.”
To register for the first session please complete the membership form and email it back to Anne Stone (coach/manager) [email protected] or send her a message/text or ring 07801 509947 to confirm your place and bring your form to the club on the day.

How does Walking Cricket Work?

- Shorter Matches: Matches are typically shorter, lasting an hour or two, making them more manageable.
- Modified Equipment: Softer balls and lightweight bats are often used to reduce the risk of injury.
- Smaller Teams: Teams are usually smaller, accommodating fewer players on the pitch.
